The fever drama Queen

And the story continues... I was so hoping that with May in our sights that the illness bug would just go away.

So last Wed Corrin almost broke her nose in PE. And to add insult to injury she got sick right on top of it. So I hear alot of "Cough - Ow!" or "Sneeze - Ow!" out of her. And w/the fever and getting a sore throat she has not wanted to eat ever after the fever went away so she has lost like 4 lbs. I am hoping we are on the mend now. At least w/her.

So on Sun evening Kolette gets a fever of 104 and so that was fun. But then Monday she decides that 104 isn't good enough and bumps it up to 105 and I take her to the Dr. Her oxygen was down and she slept the entire appt. Kolette never sleeps so you know she is really sick. We got home w/an antibiotic. Then she acts fine all day yesterday w/just a fever of 101. She ends up at 105 again last night, throws up and is breathing super fast. I woke up the doctor at home who was also sick and he gave me alot of things to do like neb her every 15 mins and if it didn't improve in an hour to take her to the ER.

Anyhow we barely made it thru the night. But she is now on Prednisilone, a heavy antibiotic, pulmicort, her other antibiotic and albuteral. But she just insists she isn't sick she just gets cold. Anyhow life is guaranteed to never be boring w/her just confusing when it comes to the medical part. But God is watching over her and that is all I can ask for. Although I don't think that a little sleep would be out of the question for me.

My beautiful Ballerina

her favorite part of the dance that she didn't even enjoy during the performance this was practice

Kolette and Grammy(my mom)
She is at least attempting to do a move w/her foot.

My sweet Kolette had her first performance yesterday. She is the youngest one of all the girls she is 3 1/2, Alleynah is 5 1/2 and 2 girls are 8 and one 9 yr old. So it is ranging widely in ages. She loves to dance but the performance at Thunderegg days was a whole different story. She got up there and barely moved. She told me she was scared. I hope she grows out of it since I know she loves to dance. Either way she was darling and was fun to watch. I keep telling myself she is only 3. But the main thing is she looked beautiful so what else should I expect???

Many faces of Kolette

While playing in the park w/my new camera today I noticed some of the different moods of Kolette. This one is thinking of what I am a little afraid.

This one here is her angry yelling at her sister "Don't say that!" Corrin told her she had a small bum. Kolette says her bum is a "N-O-T big bum" She is certainly a fiesty girl.

This is her thinking she is very funny. I am not totally in on the joke but it is very hallarious. Now the bottom picture came before the one above it but I am not smart enough w/moving it. Tiff help!!!!!!!!!!

Blood test in.

So today is the day. I call the doctors office to find out what they found out. Uh... nothing! Well, they said that she did have strep. Duh! But everything else turned up negative. So... what does that mean for her fevers and her oxygen being so low. When she was a baby her oxygen was always at 92% and it ended up being a VERY bad thing.

So the nurse told me that basically it is like what the doctor said and it is a inflammatory problem that is affecting her lungs a.k.a. asthma. Seriously? I don't get what a fever has to do w/asthma. I comprehend what he tells me but I don't get it. Why when we have had such a great winter does the child pick the beginning of summer to get a "asthma" issue? They don't want to label her w/"asthma" b/c you can never take that back. Ahhhhhh!!!!!!!

So I didn't get the answer I wanted. Not that I knew what I wanted. I just wanted an explanation of why she is having the problems she is having. This doesn't make me feel totally sure of where we go from here. So we continue on w/our "Mystery Girl". One can never say life w/Kolette is predictable or boring. Never!

The waiting results/verdict

Well after spending all day but 2 hours of it at the doctors office I am tired. Took Kolette in yesterday and she for once still had the fever in the morn. Dr. Matt listened to her and said that she had crackles in her lungs on the left side which is the side that collasped in the past. So he wanted an x-ray. She clearly wasn't feeling good since she slept everywhere we were yesterday. We go to the hospital to get the x-ray and back to the doctors office to wait some more. Her oxygen was at 92% and it is susposed to be 96-100 to be normal and in the hospital they turn the oxygen off at 94%. Sooooooo... we wait some more. They said that she has adelectis(sp?) which she always has. It is pockets of fluid in the lungs and usually that means pneumonia. But in her case she gets this when sick so who knows what it means this time. So they do a blood draw. Ouch! Poor baby they put numbing stuff on it and the crazy girl watched the needle go in so that wasn't a good idea. I have found that I am not so nice anymore after all we have been thru w/her. I am not in the mood to explain her situation to anyone that doesn't already know her at the doctors office. It is not a social call and I only want to talk to Dr. Matt and his fabulous nurse Becca. So although I am nice I am guarded.

So anyhow after a urinalisis we go home to wait for a call from the doctor. We are only home for an hour and a half. Then Becca calls back says that there are elevated levels of white blood cells and that she needs Roseffin(sp?) and we need to come back. Roseffin is an intravenous antibiotic. So more poking. It took 3 separate pokes before they finally got the I.V. in. Then they did a strep swab. Shockingly to me it was positive. But as Matt said it is like when she got an ear infection at the same time as pneumonia we push the ear infection aside and deal w/the pneumonia. So we will still treat the strep but the lung part is probably a reaction w/her asthma. We have to wait until friday to see what the blood cultures tell us. She still has the I.V. in so incase the fever didn't go away they can give her more Roseffin. The fever is mostly gone so hopefully today we will get it out.

I tell you she is a bear when sick. I can't say I blame her she has been poked enough in her life and she fights it hard. She does say that her lungs and her throat hurt still. So I guess we will wait and see what is causing the problem. The asthma part is related to the fevers she has been having. So I am hoping for a diagnosis but am a wee bit afraid of what it could be. I just need to remember that God is in control and I am just here to make sure I do all I can for her.

Frustrated!

Why does Kolette continue to make me question? After the rough first year of her life it seemed like it has been pretty good. We haven't had to go the E.R since Sept and haven't been hospitalized since last January. So why is she having freak fevers at night all the time now? For the past year it has been about once a month that she gets a fever at night and then is totally gone in the morn. I don't keep her from doing things just b/c she had a fever at night b/c she would never get to do anything.

Now she has a fever again of 103.6 and it is at least the 10th in the past 3 weeks. So I broke down and called the on call doctor. I cringe when I call b/c I don't want to talk to very many about it other than Dr. Matt and Dr. Dunbrasky who is who called me tonite. So in a way I feel like I am getting an answer and also it scares me. She said that we need to get a blood work up on her. But it would be better to get it while she has the fever. Ok, but she only gets them at night. She said she didn't want me to go to the ER but that I need to bring her in tomorrow and they will do one and also give me a note to take to the ER next time she gets a fever and I won't have to see the ER doctor and just get the blood work up done. She also asked if she had ever had a rhumatoid work up? Uh no. So she said that might be a good idea b/c it can tell if it is lupus since that shows up as a fever sometimes. That makes me want to cry. One of my good friends has s/thing related to Lupus and I understand how horrible it is for her. So I am trying to not borrow trouble. But she is my baby and I don't want her to be sick or suffer any lifelong illness. Can't I just take it on and leave her alone. Ok, I know I am getting ahead of myself but really it is scary to have a child you love more than life itself sick and know you have no control over getting them better. I know what she looks like on the edge of death and it was the worst thing to ever happen in my life. I pray that whatever it is that is causing her problem can be fixed. I pray that God allows the doctors to see what is causing the fevers. I pray that she is ok. Please pray for her too.

Good things come in small packages

After a super busy week filled w/too much drama I want to reflect of just one of my blessings. This is proof that good things come in small packages... Spunky, sweet and full of personality but it all fits into a box w/a smile. That is enough to make the day worth it for me and bring just a bit of sunshine into my life.

Kolette's new haircut

Well these pictures were susposed to be switched the before pic is on the bottom and the after is on the top. She just loves it. She says she looks like Corrin's friend Kelsee. She tried to blow a bubble the other day and the entire piece of gum shot out of her mouth into her hair. Yuck! I tried ice and also butter but she has such thin hair and it was way too bad. So we got the new doo and she loves it. Now we will have to see how much she loves it when it won't make the same ponytails. But I think she is darling which is a Fancy Nancy word so Kolette approves. Corrin's friend Maya told her she looks "Fabulous" which is also a word Fancy Nancy says so Kolette is very happy.

My baby is growing up

Why is it the youngest wants so badly to be older? It is suprising to me how much Kolette wants to grow up. She wants it all her ears pierced, make-up, boobs you name it she wants it. If you have the nerve to call anything on her little or small you have a fight on your hands. Her grandma bought her stick on earrings and she LOVES them but they lose their stick quickly. Esp when she keeps taking them off to look at how pretty they are. She keeps asking when she is going to get boobs like me. Seriously the visual of her little 3 yr old body w/a set of boobs is too funny. She would fall over literally!

I hate that I feel like I am breaking her heart when I point out she is too little for s/thing. Today at church I was talking to a girl that used to be in my youth group. Now she is married w/a 1yr old. Yikes! Anyhow I told Kolette to tell her how old she was and she did, then I said can you spell your name for her and Kolette says "K-O- 2 crosses-2 E's and a L" I told Shannon that Ian would be going to kindergarten next year. Kolette said she was going to school too and I said "Is mommy going to let you?" and she said "No" and literally started to cry. I feel so bad that she doesn't get the reality of it all. I need some ideas for how to entertain this little girl. I am not even allowed to call her that. The closest I have gotten is to tell her that she is N-O-T(spelled) big, and for now that works. I am hoping to find a ballet class that is during the day and maybe even break down and do real preschool for her. Honestly she acts more ready for Kindergarten than Ian. Ian could care less. Time will tell but until then I am going to have to be really creative to keep her happy.

Have a wonderful day!

What's a penis or cocklate?

Don't you just love when your child can pronounce most words pretty well but not all well? Well Kolette told me tonite that she likes "Penis" also known as "Peanuts" and she loves "Hot Cocklate" aka chocolate. Crazy girl good thing this too shall pass. But I will kinda miss the grammer errors when she starts to get them right.

Dance puppet dance...

These are just pictures to prove how much Kolette loves her brothers. But she also has them figured out. Yesterday I was in the bathroom brushing my teeth while the kids were finishing up their breakfast. All the sudden I hear the boys running around the table. I peek out and tell them to stop. I ask why they are running around the table. Connor who was sitting next to Kolette says "Kolette put this in my bowl and it is Ian's" the this is a piece of toast. Ian says "No, it's not it is Kolettes". During the explainations from the boys Kolette is sitting there quietly w/a very satisfied look on her face. She had managed to get the boys to run around the table after each other and look completely innocent when all along it was her who had started it. The boys were completely oblivious to it and were going after each other Connor to put the piece of toast on Ian's plate and Ian trying to keep it off his plate. All the while Kolette has the look on her face of "Dance puppet dance"
Oh boy, what am I in for? Life is sooooooooooooo not boring w/Kolette in the house. The funny thing is she had a fever the night before that and felt good enough to be onery all day. She had another fever last night but you would never know today. She is sassy as ever. The lesson for me is onery princess' are worth it always over sick ones. I am thankful.

Naked wonder

Seriously I have yet to figure out Kolette. I am starting to think we should have named her Birth Control. She is a doll and I love her to pieces. But I am having a hard time figuring out why she does the things she does. Her latest thing to do instead of falling asleep it take off all her clothes and be stark naked all night. I tried to put jammies and panties on her a week ago but it woke her up. Ahhhh!!! I just keep thinking of what if an emergency came up and I had a skinny naked 3 year old to take out of the house. I would love to just duck tape her clothes on her but what a pain to take off when washing. Also it would leave a sticky residue.

During the day we start out w/a outfit on and if it lasts an hour it is amazing. She LOVES her dress she wore for Halloween. Granted she is a very beautiful pink princess I would like to see some variety in her wardrobe. Of course as soon as I think that she is back into wearing her Ariel swimsuit. Of course that is what she loves to wear when she wants to pretend that she has a baby in her tummy. Crazy girl...

Tagged

My friend Rachelle tagged me. You have to blog about the picture in your 4th folder in your My Pictures file and the 4th picture in that file. This is Kolette at 2 1/2 months old. She had just gotten out of the hospital and off of oxygen. My friend Amy Parsons a professional photographer who lives in Northern Washington came down and took some family pics and some of Kolette. It was so great to see Kolette smiling after all she had been thru.
Consider yourself tagged!!!

How to really sparkle

I guess I am getting paybacks according to my mom. She says I used to change my clothes all the time when I was little. It dosen't hurt that sweet Kolette looks so much like me. Spitting image more like.

Anyhow I made the fatal mistake yesterday of putting Corrin's sparkle lotion on Kolette after a bath yesterday. She smelled like blueberries and slightly sparkled. She was thrilled. So today as I am making a way too late dinner of chicken enchiladas
Corrin yells to me "Mom you need to see your daughter"

I say: "My hands are all slimy"

Corrin " You REALLY need to see her"

Me "Can you carry her up?"

Corrin "NO way" (she has a thing about getting dirty)

Me " Can you carry her under her arms?"

Corrin "No way you have to see her"

Me "Kolette come up here right now"

She was covered from head to toe in sparkles literally. Corrin had left out lip gloss w/sparkles. I threw her in the tub and scrubbed her from head to foot and she still had sparkles.

Note to self... Never Ever let Kolette near ANYTHING. Seriously that girl is lucky she is the 4th or else our family size would be much smaller. Corrin made life so easy never getting into anything. Connor couldn't get into anything w/o making a ton of noise. Ian is quiet but not so enamored in covering his body w/lip gloss, markers, crayons, food or whatever suits his fancy. Kolette was clearly cut from a mischievious mold. Tomorrow is another day but what kind of day is still to be determined...

Blow kisses

Kolette is the most peticular child I have. She comes up w/the strangest things and insists that everyone abide by her wishes. For example "Blow Kisses" she doesn't want you to directly kiss her owies. She wants you to kiss close to it and blow. She just smashed her finger in a cubboard and was crying holding her finger up to me. I forgot and kissed it directly and she cried and told me "No, and made kiss sounds and mmm... sound for blow" since she was still crying. It takes alot more blow kisses to heal her owies that a direct kiss did for my other kids. She also insists that her eyes are pink. She finally will accept that they are pink chocolate. I now know that the pink is the eyelid and the chocolate is the eye color. Now boys never have pink eyes they just have whatever eye color they have. She also will tell you that she has pink hair. Donnie used to argue w/her and tell her that her eyes were brown and her hair was blonde. I however can do w/o the tears and don't mind indulging her. She has known her colors for over a year so it isn't that she is colorblind she just knows that pink is for girls and clearly the only color acceptable for her. I don't know how long this stage will last it has been at least a year so far.
