I'm there for you

I am standing at my computer and this is the conversation I am hearing from the boys bedroom. It is Ian and Kolette.

Ian "I am here for you"
Kolette "I am here for you"
Ian "I won't let anyone hurt you"
Kolette "You look up to me"
Ian "I have to take very, very, very good care of you"
Kolette "What if you got in trouble at school coz someone was mean to me?"
Ian "I will always take care of you"

My cup runneth over!

My Girl!

4th Grade has been a rough one for my Corrin. She started out the year with the teacher she really wanted. She was happy and doing well in class. Then a teacher/family member died who taught in the kindergarten. So Corrin's teacher who is happiest as a kinder teacher took the vacant spot. Corrin got a new fresh out of college teacher. So between the girls that were making her life miserable she had to deal w/a teacher that was rigid and made her more miserable. Corrin became sad and cried alot. This is NOT her. She has always been a straight A student and 2 of her grades dropped to a B and a C. The teacher couldn't explain it and said that it was missing assignments. I know my daughter and there were no missing assignments. She made life very miserable. Anyhow after much struggle we were blessed w/her being moved to a new class w/a new teacher right after the Christmas break.

Immediately Corrin was happy again. She came home from school and said she could talk outside when they were in line. It has been the best thing ever to have her smile again. She loves her new teacher and is thriving. Her conferences went wonderful, but today she got a award at the Awards Assembly and this is what it said :

"Corrin Shuster has earned recognition for Being a model student. You have done an outstanding jo0b of getting every assignment in. You are an amazing student! Your efforts have really helped you achieve higher grades. Keep up the great work and keep that smile on your face!"

Wow what a difference a great teacher can make in the life of a student. In case you ever wonder how to be there for your child just listen. I am thankful I am able to help out in the classroom so I can see first hand what it is really like. I am so thankful that God allowed Corrin to be moved to the best learning place for her.

Oh she also got the P.E. award too:o)

In case that's not enough...

In addition to my last post in my fight against aging. I vow to pull, pluck, wax, shave or tweeze any hair that has the nerve to grow anywhere else other than my head. Just ask my mom she will attest to this being a goal of mine. I have recently become a fan of having my eyebrows waxed. I don't enjoy the pain of it or the horrible red marks around my eyebrows when I am done but after an hour I am VERY happy. Crazy the things that make this girl happy:o)

Hello my name is Amy and I love Facebook

I guess I am becoming a huge blogger slacker. I think to myself that I have nothing to say that is interesting to anyone but myself and I already know so what's the point? But my Facebook is easy it is just a few sentences and I am done. So I am going to have to think of s/thing more than once a month to blog about. I know it's not interesting but Kolette got her hair cut in a bob again. She isn't too happy about it since she wants it long. She just isn't in on the secret that she has super fine hair that doesn't hold a curl and there really isn't much of it. So unless by a miracle it decides to be thick and full of body she is stuck w/short hair dos. Me? Well I had to get my hair highlighted b/c I refuse to not be blond. I also refuse to age gracefully. I WILL NOT HAVE WHITE HAIR!!! I vow I will color my hair and it color won't take on my hair when it is all white I will find a way to make it not white whether w/a permanent marker or Rit dye. Yep I am insane! I did pull out a white hair the other day. It's not like I have very many but I am preparing for the battle. Why do they figure out how to grow so much faster than the rest of my hair? Is it b/c I vow to destroy them w/color? Ok I will stop on my rant over aging in any sense of the word. But I do feel better b/c it is off my chest and my hair is once again it's blonde self:o)

Have a blessed day all!

I'm baaaaaaaaaaaack!!!!!!!!!!

I think I have been taken over by a facebook addiction. I get on the computer just long enough to check facebook and off again. No blogging. I know I have plenty of things to blog about but just don't take the time to type them out. Or I wonder am I giving more info than others want to know. I don't know I don't have a very exciting life but it is busy and I love it!

We are having a bit of deja vu this week. We have enjoyed this year of Kolette not getting very sick so much. She has had pneumonia twice this season but both times it was a rather mild version and it didn't knock her down. I foolishly thought maybe she is growing out of the rough stuff.

However Sunday night she got a fever and was feeling miserable. So I took her to the doc on Mon and he said her lungs sounded clear just could hear her asthma. So after a miserable Mon night I took her in for a x-ray Tues morn. She actually felt fine when we got to the hospital. She was on a Motrin/albuteral high and walked in all by herself showed me where the admissions desk was and also to the radiation waiting room. No one would guess she was sick. So I talk to the doctor a few hours later and he says she has pneumonia in her upper left and right lungs and also in the middle lobe. Puts her on 2 antibiotics. I am thinking ok we will be fine. But she had the worst time breathing that night. I resisted w/everything in me to not call the doc at home that night. No you won't be that mom I kept telling myself. She had a fever during the night but the rapid breathing more than twice what it should be when she didn't have the fever was scaring me and when she got her fever of 104.2 at 4am and her breathing was so fast I didn't even want to count coz i feared I would have to take her to the hospital. However I nebbed her and we made it thru to the morn at home. Anyhow her fever went away and I took her in to the doc again. He o2 kinda sucked and so he put her on prednisilone. I hate the idea of steroids but I hate a sick kid even worse. Sooooooooooooooooooooo we are on the mend now and I am so glad. He wants us to see a pediatric pulminologist. Only thing is they don't have any around here so we would have to go to Portland or Salt Lake. I guess I better get to looking. Thanks for listening to my babbling. I will try to not be so long next time or quite so long winded:o)

Things that make you go hmmm...

Wow it has been awhile. I get so busy I forget that I have a blog. It is a new year full of new things I am sure. Corrin is in a new classroom and so that is our biggest change. But you can't be afraid of change it is part of what makes us stronger.

We got the kids report cards on Friday. Corrin and Connor did great and had the expected comments on them. So no suprises there. My Ian however. . . well I have always known he marches to his own drum, that he is super stubborn, that he is smarter than he ever lets on, that you can't force him to do anything that is not his idea first. I also know he is super sweet and would do anything for anyone. But then again all on his terms. So his report card looked great but on the comment section was the sandwich effect. His teacher has had both Corrin and Connor in her class for kinder and 1st so she knows our family. Anyhow she says how great he is and how she loves to see his creative twist on things blah, blah, blah ok here is the zinger. "I would love to see Ian be more responsive to whole group learning that he does not see as meaningful, I think the more participation he would engage with the more meaning he would find." then a comment about it being a great quarter of growth. Gotta love it coz it totally sums up Ian. However this does not mean that I am not working on him and getting him to understand how important it is to me and his teacher that he participate in everything in class and always do his best. I still after almost 6 yrs haven't figured out how to best motivate that boy. If I figure out one thing that works guaranteed it won't work the next time.

Kids they are so different. I guess that is why I feel like my brain is in a fuzz. I am always trying to find what works for each of my kids and it always takes change. But I am thankful that I have the opportunity to do it:o)

Birthday happiness

It is funny how the older we get the less our birthday means to us. I am now 35 and no I don't think that is old. But it is funny how the little things are the things that mean the most. Every year since I was born my mom has played "The best gift" by Barbara Streisand on my b-day. She will call me and say nothing but the song is playing. Don't bother talking she won't talk back just let the music play. I love it! Traditions are a wonderful thing.

My brother flew in on Tues and had to fly out on my b-day. But this is the 2nd year in a row he has been here for my b-day. We all went to dinner last night and he came by this morn for a little bit before he flew out. It is sure nice to spend time w/your family even if it is a small one.

My kids all did s/thing for me. Corrin made dinner and dessert all on her own. The best part was she didn't even have to be asked. Connor went w/his Grandma a week ago and got me some perfume he knew I really liked. He thought it was a huge secret even though Grandma had let on but I kept up the ruse. His heart was what won me over. Ian gave me one of his fave hot wheels and a hacky sack ball and he wrapped them himself. Also a book he made at school that he read to me. Kolette made me 2 pictures that she had wrapped herself too. But I gotta say the hugs and kisses were my favorite parts.

Nope I don't mind birthdays as an adult b/c what gifts mean the most aren't the ones you can buy in the store you only find in the heart of s/one you love.
